Privacy policy and terms of use
Effective November 2, 2026
The short version
- Pedal Points has no accounts and doesn't track you.
- Your rides, points and settings are stored only on your own phone. Your route is never saved.
- To show weather and a map during a ride, the app sends your approximate location to two free outside services. No other personal information leaves your phone.
- We don't sell, share or collect your personal information.
Who we are
Pedal Points ("the app") is a free bike-riding game made by Scott Thompson. You can reach us at scottshotsphoto@gmail.com.
What the app stores, and where
The app saves your ride totals, your last five rides (date, miles, points and gas saved), points, trophies, prizes, settings, optional first name, car mileage and gas price in your web browser's storage on your own device. While a ride is running or paused, its miles and points are saved there too, so the ride isn't lost if the app closes. This information is not sent to us or anyone else. Clearing your browser's site data, or uninstalling the app, deletes it. You can save and restore a backup file yourself from the app's Settings.
Location
The app uses your phone's location only while a ride is running, to count miles and feet climbed. Your route is kept only in the app's memory on your phone, so you can choose to share its shape after the ride. It is never saved, uploaded or stored anywhere else.
When a ride starts, the app sends your approximate location to these services:
- Open-Meteo (open-meteo.com), to get the temperature, weather, sunrise and sunset.
- OpenStreetMap (openstreetmap.org), to load map pictures of your area, if the live map is turned on. You can turn the map off in Settings.
Like any website, these services receive your device's internet address when they respond. Their own privacy policies apply to that information.
Other outside services
- Google Fonts provides the app's lettering, and cdnjs provides the map code. They receive a normal web request from your device.
- Sharing: when you tap Share, the app makes a picture on your phone and opens your phone's own share menu. Nothing is posted unless you choose an app and post it yourself. Your route shape is left off the picture unless you choose to include it, and it's only offered right after a ride.
- Photos: if you add a photo to a share card, the app uses it only to draw that card on your phone. The photo isn't uploaded or saved by the app, and redrawing it removes the hidden location data that phone photos often carry.
- Tips: the "Buy the maker a coffee" button opens PayPal. Any tip is handled by PayPal under its own terms, and the app never sees your payment details.
Children
Pedal Points is made for adults. Anyone under 18 should use it only with a parent's or guardian's permission. We don't knowingly collect information from children, and the app doesn't collect personal information from anyone.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update this page and the date at the top.
Terms of use
By using Pedal Points, you agree to the following:
- For fun only. Miles, points and gas savings are estimates and may not be accurate. Don't use them for taxes, business mileage, expense claims or anything official.
- No real money. Points and reward dollars aren't cash, gift cards or prizes. Cashing in is just your own permission to treat yourself.
- Ride safely. Keep your eyes on the road and don't handle your phone while riding. Follow traffic laws and wear a helmet.
- Your choice, your risk. Never ride in unsafe weather, heat, darkness or traffic just to earn points. You are responsible for your own safety.
- Your health. Check with a doctor before starting a new exercise routine.
- Local laws. E-bike rules and trail access vary by area. Following them is up to you.
- Outside data. Weather and map information come from free outside services and may not always be right.
- Provided as is. The app is provided "as is," without warranties of any kind. It may have bugs or lose data, so save backups. You use it at your own risk.
- No brand ties. Pedal Points isn't connected to or endorsed by any bike company.
