    Your stats

    Levels

Your changes save automatically. When you're finished, tap Save settings / Done at the bottom to go back.

    Settings

    My main bike

Classic bike miles earn 1.5x points. Set it from 1 (no bonus) to 3. You can switch bikes for a single ride on the Ride tab.

    Theme

Unlock a new bike theme at each of the first few levels, with its own scenery. Classic is always here. Tap a locked theme to preview it.

    Units

Changing fuel economy converts your car's numbers for you. Points stay fair: a kilometer earns about 0.62 of a mile's points.

    Your car

Used to estimate the gas money you save on errand rides.
At 1, a plain errand mile earns exactly the gas money it saved. The gas math doesn't count wear and tear on your car, oil changes, your time or your mental health, so you can raise it to whatever feels fair: 2 doubles it, 3 triples it. Tap ? at the top left for the full explanation.

    Sounds and announcements

    Phone battery saver

GPS and keeping the screen on use the most phone battery, and the app needs both during a ride. These extras use a little more, so turn them off to stretch your phone battery on long rides.
The moving pictures pause by themselves during a ride.

    Bonus buttons

These appear on the Ride tab. Use ▲ ▼ to change the order. Raining? fixes the automatic weather if it's wrong.

    Edit prizes

Change a price, delete a prize, or add your own. The app works out the points.

    Backup

Save a backup file to keep your points safe or move them to a new phone. Backups go to your Downloads folder, named pedal-points-backup plus the date.

    Add a ride

For rides you forgot to track. It earns the same points as a tracked ride.

    What kind of ride?

    Tick anything that applied:

    How to use Pedal Points

The short version: tap Start errand ride or Start leisure ride when you ride, keep the app open, tap End ride when you're done, and spend your points on rewards.

    Ride tab, step by step

    1. Before your first ride: tap the gear button at the top right. Enter your name, pick your main bike, and enter your car's miles per gallon and your local gas price. Tap Save settings / Done at the bottom.

    2. Start a ride: tap Start errand ride if this ride replaces a car trip, like going to the store or the post office. Errand miles earn double points. Tap Start leisure ride for a fun ride.

    3. Allow location: the first time, your phone asks to share your location. Tap Allow. The app needs it to count your miles.

    4. While you ride: keep the app open on your screen. A handlebar phone mount works best, and never handle your phone while moving. If you switch to another app or the screen turns off, miles may stop counting. A live map shows where you are and the route you've ridden.

Need to stop? Tap Pause when you stop somewhere, like the post office. GPS stops and your phone screen can turn off, so walking around doesn't count. Tap Resume when you're back on the bike. If your phone closes the app while you're paused or riding, your ride is saved and waiting when you open it again.

    5. Bonus buttons: cold, heat, rain and snow are worked out automatically from the weather. If it's raining and the app missed it, tap Raining?. Tap Hauling? if you're carrying a heavy load, and Windy? when you're riding into the wind. A gold button means it's on. The night bonus only counts if you've said in Settings that you ride with front and rear lights.

    6. Riding your other bike? Tick the box under the bonus buttons before you start. Classic bike miles earn 1.5x. You can change that bonus in Settings.

    7. End the ride: tap End ride. You'll see your points, bonuses, any trophies and quests you finished, and the approximate gas money you saved.

Share a ride: after a ride, tap Share this ride to make a picture card for Instagram, Facebook, X, texts and more.

    • Add a photo: tap Add a photo to put a selfie or ride picture on the card, then choose Photo on top or Full background. The photo isn't saved, and its hidden location data is removed.
    • Route shape: left off unless you tick the box. It's only offered right after a ride, never for older rides.
    • Caption: the app copies a caption for you. If an app leaves it out, paste it into your post, or tap Copy caption.
    • Older rides: your last five rides are on the Stats tab under Recent rides, each with its own Share button. You can share your all-time totals there too.

    8. Road trip game: at the bottom of the Ride tab, a pretend road trip on a made-up map, just for fun. Every mile you really ride moves your bike toward the next stop. Finish the 1,000-mile trip to earn a gold star next to your name, and the road starts fresh for another lap.

    9. Daily check-in: tap "Daily check-in" once a day for a ride tip or fun fact and to build a check-in streak. It doesn't add points. Points only come from riding.

Want more detail? Tap any little i button next to a heading.

    Rewards tab

Points bank: every point you earn goes here.

Weekly quests: four small goals that reset every Monday. Finish one for bonus points.

Prize menu: the gold bar shows how close you are. When you have enough points, tap Cash in, and the points come out of your bank.

Trophy case: locked trophies are grey. Tap one to see how to earn it.

Buy the maker a coffee: Pedal Points is free. If you enjoy it, the $3, $5 and $10 buttons at the bottom of the Rewards tab let you send an optional tip through PayPal, or you can choose another amount. Tips don't earn points.

Please note: Pedal Points does not pay out real money or gift cards. Points and reward dollars are just a game. Cashing in is your own permission to treat yourself, paid for with the money you're saving on gas by riding instead of driving.

How points and gas savings work

Gas saved per {{u}} = your fuel price ÷ your car's fuel economy. For example (in US units), $3.50 a gallon ÷ 25 mpg = about 14¢ for every mile you ride instead of drive.

Reward value per errand mile = gas saved × your reward boost. At a boost of 1, a plain errand mile earns exactly the gas money it really saved. At 2, it earns twice that, and so on.

Example: at 14¢ a mile, a $6 coffee takes about 43 plain errand miles at a boost of 1, about 21 at 2, and about 14 at 3. If gas is pricier or your car uses more fuel, rewards come faster.

Why raise the boost? The gas math only counts fuel. It leaves out the other things you gain by riding instead of driving: less wear and tear on your car, fewer oil changes and repairs, the value of your time, and a lift for your physical and mental health. That's why you can raise the boost to whatever feels fair to you.

Why reward dollars can be higher than gas saved: bonuses for weather, climbing, hauling and riding a classic bike are extra credit for effort. Leisure rides earn points too, even though they don't replace a car trip. Quests and streaks add a little more.

Your real number is "Approximate gas money saved" on the Stats tab. It only counts errand miles and isn't changed by the boost or bonuses.

The app uses miles, gallons and dollars. If you use other units, convert your car's mileage and fuel price before entering them.

    Stats tab and levels

Stats shows your total number of rides, your total, errand and leisure miles, the approximate gas money you've saved, your streak and your points.

Forgot to track a ride? Tap the button at the top of the Stats tab, type the miles, and tick what applied. It earns the same points.

Every point you ever earn counts toward your level, from Kickstand Rookie through Pedal Legend and beyond, up to Pedal Points Immortal. Spending points never lowers your level. New levels unlock new color themes.

    Settings

Tap the gear button at the top right to change your name, main bike, lights, theme, car mileage, gas price and reward boost, mile announcements and sounds, phone battery saver options, bonus buttons and prizes, and to save backups.

Saving: your changes save automatically as you make them. When you're finished, tap Save settings / Done at the bottom to go back.

      Common questions

Tap a question to see the answer.
      Why didn't my miles count?

Make sure you tapped Allow for location, kept the app open with the screen on, and had a clear view of the sky. Very short rides, under about a tenth of a mile, don't count. If a ride didn't record, add it with "Forgot to track a ride?"

It says there's a location problem.

Open Chrome, tap the three dots, then Settings, Site settings, Location, and make sure this site is allowed. Also check that location is turned on in your phone's settings.

      How much are points worth?

A plain errand mile (20 points) is worth the gas money that mile saved, times your reward boost. At a boost of 1, rewards match your real gas savings. See "How points and gas savings work" on this page.

      How are points worked out?

Each mile earns 10 points, and errand miles count double. Bonuses are added per mile: freezing +5, heat +3, snow +15, rain +5, night +10 (only with lights turned on in Settings), plus any bonus buttons you turn on. From December through March everything earns 1.5x, and classic bike miles earn 1.5x too (adjustable in Settings). You also get +5 points for every 100 feet you climb, plus a streak bonus on the first ride of each day in a row.

What's the difference between Errand and Leisure?

Errand rides replace a trip you'd otherwise drive, so they save gas and earn double points. Leisure rides are for fun, like a ride around the lake.

      What's a classic bike?

A regular bike with no motor. Set your main bike in Settings, and switch for a single ride on the Ride tab.

How do I add, change or delete a prize?

Tap the gear button (top right) and scroll to Edit prizes. Change a price in its box, tap Delete to remove a prize, or type a name and price at the bottom and tap Add prize. Prizes sort themselves from cheapest to most expensive.

How do I add or reorder bonus buttons?

Tap the gear button (top right) and scroll to Bonus buttons. Use ▲ and ▼ to change the order, Delete to remove one, or type a name and bonus points at the bottom and tap Add button. If you delete one by mistake, tap "Reset to the starting buttons."

      My settings didn't save.

Settings save automatically as you change them. If something looks wrong, tap the gear button (top right), set it again, and tap Save settings / Done to go back. If it still won't stick, Chrome may be set to clear site data. Check Chrome's settings.

How do I save phone battery?

GPS and keeping the screen on use the most phone battery, and both are needed to count miles. To stretch your phone battery, tap the gear button (top right) and under Phone battery saver turn off the live map and moving pictures. Turning your screen brightness down helps a lot too.

The map is blank or won't load.

The map needs a data connection and your location. Your miles still count without it. You can turn the map off in Settings (the gear button, top right) under Phone battery saver.

How do I stop the mile announcements?

Tap the gear button (top right), then under Sounds and announcements choose every mile, every 5, 10 or 20 miles, or Off. You can also choose a buzz only, with no voice.

How do levels and quests work?

Levels go up with every point you earn and never go down. Weekly quests reset every Monday, and each one you finish adds bonus points to your bank.

I stopped at a store. How do I keep my ride going?

Tap Pause. The app stops tracking and your screen can turn off, so walking around the store doesn't count. When you're back on the bike, open the app and tap Resume.

What if my phone closes the app during a ride?

The app saves your ride's miles and points every so often, and whenever you pause. When you open it again, the ride is waiting, paused. Tap Resume to keep going or End ride to finish. Your route isn't saved.

How do I share an older ride?

Open the Stats tab. Under Recent rides, tap Share next to any of your last five rides.

Can I add a selfie to my share card?

Yes. In the Share window, tap Add a photo and pick one from your gallery, or take a new one. Then choose Photo on top or Full background. The photo is only used for that card and isn't saved by the app.

Sharing to X (or another app) didn't include my caption.

Some apps drop the text when a picture comes with it. The app copies the caption for you when you tap Share, so just paste it into your post. You can also tap Copy caption in the Share window.

How do I move to a new phone?

Tap the gear button (top right), then Save backup file. Send that file to your new phone, by email for example. On the new phone, open the app, tap the gear button (top right), then Restore from file. In the file picker, open the Downloads folder (tap the menu or "Recent" if you don't see it) and choose the file that starts with pedal-points-backup. The app reminds you to back up every 5 rides.

Will an app update erase my points?

No. Your points, prizes and settings stay on your phone when the app updates. Clearing Chrome's site data would erase them, so keep a backup.

Moving to a Google Play or App Store version? If Pedal Points comes out in an app store, that will be a separate app, and your points won't move over by themselves. Save a backup file here first ( gear button, then Save backup file), then use Restore from file in the new app.

Is my location shared or tracked?

There are no accounts and no tracking. Your rides, routes and points stay on your phone. When you start a ride, the app sends your approximate location to a free weather service (Open-Meteo) for the temperature and weather, and the live map loads map pictures of your area from OpenStreetMap. Nothing else leaves your phone.
